Ito and Wife Wept

NEW YORK () -- Judge Lance Ito and his wife sobbed in his chambers minutes after the acquittal verdict was delivered in the murder trial of former U.S. football star O.J. Simpson, the Daily News reported Wednesday.

"They were wailing together. This was real crying,'' the newspaper quoted an unidentified Los Angeles courthouse source as saying about Ito and his wife, Los Angeles police Capt. Peggy York.

One courthouse source said the abrupt end of the trial -- after less than four hours of jury deliberations -- might have caught Ito unprepared, the News said.

"I think the judge may have just crashed,'' the source said.
