Indurain: Drug Suspect

PARIS () -- Four-time Tour de France champion Miguel Indurain's looming assault on the one-hour cycling record was overshadowed Monday by suspicion that he used a French-restricted drug in a race in May.

But though the drug, salbutamol, is subjected to certain controls in France that Indurain may have violated, international cycling officials said the Spanish rider met their standards.

According to reports at the world cycling championships in Sicily, which Indurain bypassed, the Spanish rider tested positive for taking salbutamol during the Tour d'Oise in May. Indurain won the three-day French race.
