India Rail Blaze Toll 27

PATNA, India ) -- At least 27 people were killed and 15 seriously injured by a blaze that swept through one coach of a train in the eastern Indian state of Bihar on Wednesday, police and railway officials said.

The coach on the Bombay-Calcutta Express caught fire near Chakradhapur early Wednesday, a railway official said. He ruled out sabotage and added that the passengers were caught unawares as most were sleeping.

The Press Trust of India said more deaths were feared in the fire, which slightly damaged two other coaches.
