Graham Packs Olympic Stadium

The Moscow Times
Record crowds packed the Olympic Stadium in Moscow over the weekend to hear Billy Graham, the U. S. evangelist, speak, according to mission officials.

Vozrozhdeniye '92, a three-day crusade that was the culmination of a year-long presence in Russia by Graham associates, broke the stadium's attendance record on successive nights, attracting 42, 000 Friday, 43, 500 Saturday and 50, 000 on Sunday. An additional 20, 000 watched outside Sunday on a giant screen, Larry Ross, a Graham spokesman, said.

Statistics in and outside the facility were provided by stadium officials and police, Ross said. Previously, the highest attendance at the Olympic Stadium had been 38, 000 during the 1988 Goodwill Games.

"We believe that the crowds confirmed observations that there is a spiritual hunger here and a search for the meaning of life", Ross said Sunday.
