HANOI () -- Scientists are excited about a photograph of a goat-like animal that could be the third new species to be discovered in Vietnam in as many years, a leading naturalist said Wednesday.


The photograph was taken in December by peasants in Thua Thien-Hue province in central Vietnam, said Vo Quy, of the National University of Hanoi.


Quy said the peasants trapped two of the unidentified animals -- a mother and baby -- and sent a photo to the university because they had never seen such animals before.


Both animals died, Quy said. He said his center planned to study the remains of the animals.
