WASHINGTON ) -- U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich has accused Democrats of waging a campaign of "personal destruction'' against him by continuing to raise questions about a book contract.
Gingrich said at a Thursday news conference that he was determined to write the book.
Gingrich originally was offered a $4.5 million advance to write two books for a publishing company controlled by media magnate Rupert Murdoch, who has billions of dollars at stake in telecommunications business pending before the federal government. Questions about the book deal have persisted since it was disclosed that Gingrich and Murdoch met at the Capitol shortly before negotiations were concluded with Murdoch's HarperCollins Publishers.
