Flyers Sign MacTavish

NEW YORK -- Craig MacTavish will not be hanging up his hockey gear for a coach's suit as expected but will switch to a Philadelphia Flyers jersey. The 35-year-old free-agent center signed a two-year contract with Philadelphia believed to be worth about $1.6 million. "It wasn't a financial thing," said MacTavish, who earned $550,000 last season. He said on Wednesday that on such a deep, veteran team as the Stanley Cup champion Rangers he would be relegated to more spot duty than regular shifts, and he wanted to end his career as a larger contributor.
