First Lotto: No Winner

Lotto Million; the much-advertised game of chance that promised to make millionaires of lucky Muscovites, fell short of its billing Thursday night.

Nobody hit the jackpot in the first official drawing that would have divided the top prize of 5. 18 million rubles ($14, 000).

But 56 people did pick five out of six Lotto numbers and will divide 4. 28 million rubles, giving them 76, 373 rubles each. Another 3, 173 people held four lucky numbers and will split a pot of 3. 5 million rubles, which breaks down to 1, 110 rubles each.

Muscovites registered more than three million attempts to pick the six

winning numbers at 10 rubles a pop, according to Andreas Papoulias, the lottery's deputy general director, making it the most popular lottery in the city's history.

The winning numbers were 26, 20, 48, 13, 47, 16. In an unusually speedy delivery of money in a country noted for bank delays, winners will receive their winnings within a week, Papoulias said.

Lotto Million, Russia's, largest lottery, was founded by Intracom, a Greek firm which also conducts similar electronic games in Greece and Cyprus. Forty percent of the game proceeds will benefit the Olympic Committee to subsidize pensions of former medal-winning athletes.
