Female Rockers Hold Unsanctioned Performance on Red Square

All-female rock group Pussy Riot held an unsanctioned concert Friday on Red Square at which they performed a song with the chorus "Rebellion in Russia", the group said on its LiveJournal page.

Photographs posted on the group's blog page show its members dressed in brightly colored dresses and stockings standing on the outside wall of Lobnoye Mesto, a centuries-old platform across from the Kremlin on which tsars' decrees were once read.

The group said they performed a song that began with the lyric "A column that has risen up in rebellion is moving toward the Kremlin". Another lyric in the song echoed a chant from last month's demonstrations protesting the State Duma elections: "We exist".

The group wrote on its Twitter account Friday evening that half the group's singers were in police custody.
