England's Slim Chances

MELBOURNE, Australia () -- England slumped to within sight of a second straight Ashes Test defeat Wednesday, but team manager Keith Fletcher maintained his team was unlucky.

England is 79 for four in its second innings, chasing a victory target of 388 against Australia, and Fletcher admits the tourists have little chance of winning with one day of play remaining.

England lost Graham Gooch, Graeme Hick, Graham Thorpe and captain Mike Atherton after failing to cope with the twin pace attack of Damien Fleming and Craig McDermott. If England is defeated, it will have lost the first two Tests in four straight Ashes series. Those earlier contests finished 4-0, 3-0 and 4-1 in Australia's favor.
