Earthquake Jolts Japan

TOKYO () -- A violent earthquake shook northern Japan on Wednesday night, killing at least two people and injuring 130.


The 7.5 magnitude quake, centered in the Pacific Ocean about 625 kilometers northeast of Tokyo, triggered waves of up to 55 centimeters on shore, but warnings of dangerous waves were lifted 2 1/2 hours after the quake.


Two people were killed and eight injured when the second floor of a pinball parlor collapsed in Hachinohe, a city of about 240,000, 150 kilometers west of the epicenter.
