Crimea Crisis Worsens

In a move signaling a deepening of the crisis in Crimea, The republic's parliament amended the constitution Wednesday to effectively strip the president of his powers, said Itar-Tass.


According to newly passed amendments, the prime minister becomes the head of the executive branch instead of the president and will be responsible for forming the government. Another amendment passed stipulates that the president can be removed from office by a 2/3 vote for violating the Constitution.
