Council to Cast Final Vote On Production Sharing

The Federation Council, Russia's upper chamber of parliament, will cast a final vote on a key oil production sharing law by Oct. 10, Interfax on Monday quoted Fuel and Energy Minister Yury Shafranik as saying.

Shafranik was speaking after meeting energy officials in the Far East's Sakhalin region, where multibillion-dollar foreign oil investments are planned.

Interfax quoted him as saying he was "absolutely certain" the legislation would pass.

The production-sharing law has been passed by the State Duma and needs Federation Council approval before going to President Boris Yeltsin for signature.
