Clinic Killer Gets Death Sentence

PENSACOLA, Florida -- Anti-abortion activist Paul Hill has been sentenced to die in Florida's electric chair for murdering an abortion clinic doctor and his escort.

Hill, 40, was convicted in October by a state court jury in the fatal July 29 shooting of Dr John Britton and clinic escort John Barrett outside the Ladies Center abortion clinic in Pensacola.

Hill stood quietly in court Tuesday, dressed in a green prison jumpsuit with his legs shackled, as Judge Frank Bell sentenced him to two death penalties for the murders. The judge could have given Hill life in prison without parole.

Judge Bell described the crime -- the second fatal shooting at a Pensacola abortion clinic in as many years -- as "heinous" and "atrocious."

Hill, a former Presbyterian minister, is an outspoken advocate of "justifiable homicide." He has expressed no remorse for his crimes.
