China Slashes Tariffs

BEIJING () -- China said Thursday that it would slash the average level of import tariffs to 23 percent from April 1, a major step in its drive to enter the World Trade Organisation.


The cut would mean a 35 percent reduction from the current average tariff rate, the Xinhua news agency quoted a State Council circular as saying.
