China Expels Reporter

BEIJING () -- The Chinese government Tuesday accused a German reporter of "negatively influencing German public opinion about China" and ordered him to leave the country by Dec. 28.

Henrik Bork, Beijing bureau chief for the Frankfurter Rundschau, was informed in the early morning hours by the German government after last-ditch efforts by the German Foreign Ministry failed to reverse the Chinese decision.

The Chinese government refused to renew Bork's press credentials, which expire Dec. 28. Foreign reporters must apply annually to renew their press card, and without it they cannot get a visa to continue working in China.
