Buffaloes beat Longhorns

NEW YORK -- Rashaan Salaam found the going at Texas' Memorial Stadium quite to his liking.
The Colorado tailback ripped the Longhorns for a career-best 317 yards rushing, as the fifth-ranked Buffaloes rallied to win 34-31 Saturday.
Salaam, who started the day as the nation's leading scorer, scored on a 6-yard run in the first quarter and also caught five passes for 45 yards.
``He ran with resolve and toughness, and he just kept coming back,'' Buffs coach Bill McCartney said.
It was a big day for star running backs. Washington's Napoleon Kaufman ran for a career-high 227 yards on 34 carries against UCLA, and Tyrone Wheatley made his first start of the season for Michigan, producing 182 yards and two touchdowns. Kirby Dar Dar ran for 108 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown in Syracuse's 28-20 upset of Virginia Tech. And lesser-known Eddie George of Ohio State got loose for 206 yards against Northwestern.

No. 1 Florida 38, Mississippi 14. In Oxford, Mississippi, the Gators (4-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) did not come close to their 58-point scoring average, but Terry Dean still thew four touchdown passes in Florida's closest game this season.
No. 2 Nebraska 42, Wyoming 32. In Lincoln, Nebraska, Lawrence Phillips and backup quarterback Brook Berringer, replacing injured Tommie Frazier, each scored three touchdowns. Berringer scored on runs of 5, 24 and 10 yards, and the Cornhuskers (5-0) needed each one to get by Wyoming (2-3).
No. 4 Penn State 48, Temple 21. In Philadelphia, Freddie Scott caught three touchdown passes and Jon Witman ran for two scores as the Nittany Lions (5-0) withstood the injury to Carter.
No. 7 Michigan 29, Iowa 14. In Iowa City, Iowa, Michigan (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) got three field goals from Remy Hamilton, and Wheatley's backup, Tim Biakabutuka, ran for a touchdown. Iowa (2-3, 0-2) led 7-3 in the second quarter but did not make another first down until late in the third quarter.
No. 8 Notre Dame 34, Stanford 15. In South Bend, Indiana, Ron Powlus threw three touchdown passes and completed 10 of his first 11 passes for 168 yards for the Irish (4-1).
No. 10 Texas A&M 23, Texas Tech 17. In College Station, Texas, Rodney Thomas scored the go-ahead touchdown with 6:11 to play to extend the nation's longest home winning streak to 23 games. The Red Raiders (2-3, 1-1 Southwest Conference) led 17-7 at halftime. Tech was still ahead 17-14 in the fourth quarter before Thomas scored for the Aggies (4-0, 1-0).
No. 12 Washington 37, UCLA 10. In Seattle, Kaufman's career day was highlighted by a 79-yard run. Washington (3-1, 1-1 in the Pac-10) beat UCLA for the first time since 1989 and won its third straight game. The Bruins (2-3, 0-2) lost their third straight.
No. 13 Miami 24, Rutgers 3. In Piscataway, New Jersey, Chris Jones scored on an 82-yard pass play and set up a second TD. The victory was the 67th straight against an unranked opponent for the Hurricanes (3-1, 1-0 Big East).
Syracuse 28, No. 14 Virginia Tech 20. In Syracuse, New York, Dar Dar's 34-yard touchdown run with 5:42 to play -- his third of the game -- led the Orangemen (4-1, 2-0 Big East) to the upset. Virginia Tech (4-1, 2-1) lost for the first time in seven games.
Michigan State 29, No. 16 Wisconsin 10. In East Lansing, Michigan, Duane Goulbourne scored two touchdowns and the Spartans came up with four turnovers. Wisconsin (2-2, 1-1 Big Ten) lost two fumbles and two interceptions to Michigan State (2-2, 1-0).
Tennessee 10, No. 17 Washington State 9. In Knoxville, Tennessee, Nilo Silvan's sprint with 3:34 left in the third quarter gave Tennessee (2-3) a 7-6 lead. It was the first TD Washington State (3-1) had given up in 16 quarters going back to the second quarter in last season's final game. John Becksvoort kicked a 27-yard field goal with 10:15 left to win.
