British Journalist Dies in Armenia

Results from an investigation into the death of a British freelance journalist in Yerevan are likely to be released later this week by the Armenian prosecutor's office, a spokesman from the Armenian Foreign Ministry said Monday.

The woman, Ellen Sundryck, 44, died in the hospital July 10 after falling six floors from her room in the Hotel Armenia in central Yerevan, according to The Associated Press. Before she died, she told medical workers that she had felt dizzy before the fall, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Aram Safaryan.

A British Embassy worker plans to travel from Moscow to Yerevan to help set up an embassy and to get more information about Sundryck's death, an embassy spokesman said Monday.

Sundryck was buried in a monastery belonging to the Armenian Orthodox Church, AP reported.

Sundryck's mother, brother and sister visited Yerevan last week, a Hotel Armenia administrator said.

Safaryan said Sundryck had worked as an accredited journalist in Armenia in 1991 and 1992 and had visited periodically since then.
