Blackhawks Beat Winnipeg for Third Straight Victory

CHICAGO -- Murray Craven's short-handed goal with 8:27 remaining in the third period snapped a 3-3 tie and lifted the Chicago Blackhawks to their third straight victory, 4-3 over the Winnipeg Jets.


Gary Suter, who set up Craven's game-winner Thursday, got his 13th and 14th goals. Suter now leads NHL defensemen in goals. Jeremy Roenick also connected for the Hawks, who extended their unbeaten streak to six games.


Starting in goal for the fifth time in the Hawks' last six games, Jeff Hackett stretched his personal unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1).


Penguins 9, Whalers 4. In Pittsburgh, Mario Lemieux had a goal and four assists, and Jaromir Jagr got two goals and two assists as the Pittsburgh Penguins overcame a slow start to beat the Hartford Whalers 9-4.


The Penguins broke open a 2-2 game with four second-period goals as they recorded the franchise's 900th win. The Penguins are 14-3 at home this season. The Whalers got three goals from Geoff Sanderson.


Both Lemieux and Jagr, first and second in the NHL scoring race, had their 22nd multiple-point game this season.
