Banker Backs Currency

MOSCOW -- The ruble is "quite a healthy currency" which is not falling as quickly as exporters want it to, Central Bank head Viktor Gerashchenko said. "I believe our ruble is quite a healthy currency," Gerashchenko told Nezavisimaya Gazeta in an interview published Tuesday. He said the ruble was falling as Russian domestic prices rose. "It is not a tragedy," he said. "Besides, the ruble fall is much slower than exporters who are interested in such a drop would like it to be."
