Aussies Set Record

GATESHEAD, England -- Australia swamped South Africa 86-6, scoring 16 tries in a rugby league World Cup match that allowed the Aussies to break their own world mark for points scored in a game.

Tuesday's victory surpassed Australia's world record for points scored set in a 74-0 whitewash of France last December.

The Australians, making up for a close loss to England over the weekend in the tournament's opening game, took it out on the South Africans, whose weak defense was no match for fast-moving Australia.
