Appeal Reaches $10,000

The Moscow Times Christmas Children's Appeal for Orphanage No. 35 passed the $10,000 mark in cash alone as companies continued to respond Friday.


Coopers and Lybrand has pledged a donation of $1,000 and this will be added to the $5,000 given by Independent Press, publishers of The Moscow Times and Kapital. In addition, the company is giving 10 percent of all advertising revenues from the Christmas supplement in this issue, next week's Kapital Christmas supplement and a Review of the Year issue on Dec. 27.


Other firms have promised goods. Nutricia will give $2,000 worth of food, Suned Projects bv and Soyuzkontrakt will give $1,000 of food, van Melle will donate candy and the European Commission will give clothes. Time Travel has promised to give $10 for every air ticket bought through the agency in January.


Everything collected will go to Orphanage No. 35 near Novoslobodskaya. The director and children there thank all companies for their advertisements and donations, which also include a 1.35-meter Santa figure and hundreds of cans of soft drinks from Pepsi Cola.





Any companies wishing to donate should contact Tanya Platokhina on 232 9292. The newspaper will publish a full list of donors in January.
