Another Tory Falls

LONDON () -- A trade minister in the Conservative government resigned Tuesday, the second government official to quit within a week over charges of accepting favors from Harrods department store for asking questions in Parliament.

Prime Minister John Major, acknowledging there was public disquiet, announced the resignation of Neil Hamilton, the government's Corporate Affairs Minister, whose job included responsibility for business probity.

Major added that he was setting up a committee to inquire into conduct of public life. The move follows the resignation of Tim Smith, a minister for Northern Ireland, on Thursday, for similar reasons.
