Aluminum Quota Halt

MOSCOW -- Russia plans to end aluminum export quotas and licenses from 1996, but the move will not cause a surge in aluminum exports, which are likely to remain at last year's levels, officials said.

Svetlana Stepanova, deputy head of the foreign economic relations department of the Committee for Metallurgy, said the committee had prepared a draft resolution eliminating the quotas and licenses and submitted it to the government for approval. "We are confident it will be passed," Stepanova said.
