Albania in Rights Protest

TIRANA () -- The Albanian parliament protested Thursday against what it called the violation of human rights of ethnic Albanians in the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia, the state news agency ATA reported.

Parliament denounced recent deportations of Albanians to Serbia as well as neighboring Macedonia's ban on the opening of an Albanian-language university.

"The actions of the Macedonian authorities ... run contrary to Albania's friendly stand, goodwill and concrete steps in contributing to the stability of the Macedonian state," the statement said.

The Interior Ministry in Skopje says Macedonia has deported over 660 people in the past six months to the largely Albanian-populated province of Kosovo in neighboring Serbia, which is administered and policed exclusively by Serbs.
