A Taste for Illicit Frog

SHANGHAI -- The insatiable appetite of Shanghai residents for live natural frogs has created a booming black market in the protected species, the Shanghai Commercial News lamented Friday. But in a one-month crackdown from April 20 in the city district of Yangpu, officials seized 445 kilograms of frogs, against the 1.2 tons seized in 1993. Shanghai people like their frogs fried, steamed, stewed or stir-fried and eaten with different kinds of vegetables, in a great variety of styles.
