A Special Day, But For Wrong Reasons

Editor: In your Women's Day issue, your "What Is To Be Done" column contained suggestions for a special day out. This letter is in no way a complaint but just a recollection of our day in "the woods and world of Dr. Zhivago." Well, there was no problem to get the tickets for the elektrichka. And we had seats all the way to Peredelkino. But that was the best part of the day. At the Villa Peredelkino apparently there was a change in management and they take no cash -- only American Express or Olbi credit cards, neither of which I have. So, no lunch... We were told that there was a nice restaurant a little further up the road. And there was also the Pasternak museum that, yes, was open today. Well, neither the bar nor the restaurant or the museum was open... So we strolled through the woods back to the railway station and then we went home where we had an excellent (microwaved) home-cooked dinner... Best regards and no hard feelings. A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
