n BAKU, Azerbaijan () -- The crash of a Tu-134 passenger plane after takeoff in southwestern Azerbaijan left 49 people dead and 33 wounded, airline officials said Wednesday.
The plane went down Tuesday night in a mountainous area about 9 kilometers from the airport in Nakhichevan on a flight to the capital, Baku, after an engine failed, officials said.
The state airline said 74 people officially were on board the Russian-designed plane, including six crew members, but there apparently were others who boarded late.
