DHAKA () -- More than 300 people were still missing at the Monday after an overcrowded ferry sank in a whirlpool in Bangladesh's Meghna River about 100 kilometers from Dhaka, survivors said.
The ferry, reportedly carrying nearly 400 passengers and a large quantity of merchandise overturned when the crew lost control trying to berth at Chandpur terminal. It sank within minutes only 200 meters from shore.
Rescuers battling a strong current and high winds said Sunday that hopes of finding the missing alive were fading fast.
