The unidentified suspect was caught riding a Ryazan-Grozny train in the Tambov region, about 500 kilometers south of Moscow, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said.
In a coordinated police operation, a swat team found him on the train and took him back to Moscow for questioning, Markin said in a statement.
The suspect is a 38-year-old Chechen native who lived in an apartment on Moscow's Rublyovskoye Shosse, Gazeta.ru reported.
The first suspect was detained Tuesday after checking into a hospital for injuries police believe were sustained in the robbery. Gazeta.ru identified him as Chechen native Nikolai Bogatyryov.
Two attackers, wearing masks and clad in camouflage, opened fire on three cash couriers Tuesday outside the Sberbank branch at 94 Leninsky Prospekt, near the Prospekt Vernadskogo metro station. Two couriers, Viktor Krikanov and Maxim Novikov, who were wearing bulletproof vests, died on the spot, and several passers-by were injured in the shootout. The third courier, Dmitry Komov, returned fire, hitting one of the assailants in the leg as they fled.
The first suspect was detained after checking himself into City Hospital No. 31 just hours after the attack. Police said he was identified thanks to a composite sketch created from witnesses' accounts.
The Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee is handling the investigation. Both suspects are charged with robbery, banditry, illegal possession of weapons, attempted reckless murder, murder of two or more people and illegal occupation of a vehicle. If convicted, they face up to life in prison.
Markin said the armored van was carrying $800,000. "All the money is in the process of being returned to Sberbank," Markin said, Interfax reported.
Police believe that the attackers were tipped off about the armored van by Chechen brothers Akhmed and Makhomed Albatov, who work for Sberbank, Kommersant reported.
