2 Late Goals Lift the Reds

SHEFFIELD, England -- Late goals from Mark Hughes and Eric Cantona ended an hour of frustration for Manchester United against short-handed Sheffield United as the holder gained a 2-0 victory to reach the fourth round of the English F.A. Cup.

The home team was soon down to 10 players Monday after Charlie Hartfield was sent off for aiming a punch at Cantona in the 15th minute.

The Reds, confusingly wearing blue and white stripes to avoid a color clash with Sheffield, wasted a series of chances before Hughes headed a goal in the 80th minute and Cantona netted the second with a well-judged chip two minutes later.

Alex Ferguson's team, which now meets giant-killer Wrexham at home in the fourth round.
