REYKJAVIK () -- Sixteen people were found dead and four were missing 12 hours after an avalanche smashed into a tiny village in northwestern Iceland on Thursday, rescue workers said.
The avalanche struck at 4 a.m. and buried 17 houses as snow and ice rumbled through the fjord-side village of Flateyri. Rescue workers said search operations were still going on and more workers were being flown to the scene.
