Architectural preservation group Arkhnadzor has asked Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin to save the Melnikov House on Krivoarbatsky Pereulok in Moscow, Interfax reported last week.
Arkhnadzor said in a press release that the Melnikov House was under threat because of the demolition of the adjacent Melgunov House and planned construction of a five-story building with an underground parking area. They called on the government to "take urgent action to save the Melnikov House and other monuments and historical buildings located in the vicinity of the construction site," Arkhnadzor said.
The house was built in 1927 to 1929. Soviet architect Konstantin Melnikov, who designed it, lived there. It is a key constructivist landmark of the Russian avant-garde.
