Ukrainian GNP Drops

The Moscow Times
MOSCOW (MT) -- A report by the Ukrainian Ministry of Statistics has concluded that the country's economic performance declined sharply in the past nine months and continues to drop uncontrollably, according to Itar-Tass.

The report, which characterized the Ucranian economy as being in a state of crisis, said that the former Soviet republic's gross national product shrank by 12 percent compared with the same period last year.

It said that for the same period national income fell 13 percent, while productivity dropped 12 percent.

The authors of the report attributed the alarming indicators to a severe contraction in the output of building materials and in agricultural output.
