Debt Deferral Sought

The Moscow Times
MOSCOW (MT) -- Russia will press its creditors for a two-month delay in making its foreign debt payments, the Russian foreign economic relations minister, Pyotr Aven, said before leaving for a regular meeting of the Paris Club, which opens Wednesday.

Aven said that Russia was already obligated to pay its creditors $30 billion in 1993, but that the country's balance of payments would make that task difficult, if not impossible, Itar-Tass reported.
