AvtoVAZ Says Output Will Jump 50%

AvtoVAZ expects output to jump nearly 50 percent in 2010 on the back of economic recovery but to stay far short of precrisis levels after falling 63 percent last year.

AvtoVAZ, which last year received more than $1 billion in state bailout funds to stay afloat, made 294,737 Lada cars and 43,047 assembly kits last year, down from output of 920,000 in 2008.

The company, part-owned by French carmaker Renault and state corporation Russian Technologies,  reiterated that it expected production to improve this year.

It planned to produce about 446,000 Ladas and 51,000 assembly kits in 2010, with 15,300 cars set to be made this month.

Production for exports, included in the total figures, was expected to pick up to about 40,000 cars from 34,756 in 2009.
