Abramovich Buys $36M Colorado Ranch

The Moscow Times
Roman Abramovich has snapped up yet another residence far from the Chukotka autonomous district he governs, purchasing a $36.3 million Colorado ranch not far from a ski house he bought there in February.

The 1,300-square-meter, split-level home is set on a secluded 81 hectares in Snowmass, near Aspen, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

The house, built by surgical-equipment magnate Leon Hirsch, has 11 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a media room, a climate-controlled wine room, a hot tub and a spa, the report said.

Hirsch paid $5.4 million for the property in 1999 and built the house, designed by New York architect Bart Voorsanger, five years later, the newspaper said. It is a five-minute drive from his earlier Colorado purchase, a 520-square-meter, five-bedroom ski-in lodge.

Last month, Abramovich, who also owns the Chelsea football club, submitted plans to build what would be Britain's priciest home, for ?150 million in central London. He is planning to rejoin two adjacent townhouses on Lowndes Square after buying up their nine separate apartments for far less than their expected value once the work is completed.

Abramovich has maintained that his primary residence is in Moscow.
