Proun Gallery

A collection of Soviet movie posters from the 1920s to the 1940s went on display at the Proun Gallery this week. This poster is for the 1933 film "Ochir," which was produced in Leningrad. In the '20s, film ads were infused with the same avant-garde spirit that motivated the constructivists in painting and architecture, and artists tried to capture the essence of the movie on paper. They also used bright colors, though films were in black and white. By the '30s, the pace of innovation had slowed. The show runs to Nov. 6 at Proun Gallery, located at 1 4th Syromyatnichesky Pereulok, Bldg. 6, M. Chkalovskaya, Kurskaya.
