Soldiers prepare for the upcoming Victory Day parade through Red Square on Tuesday evening. May 9 will mark the 60th anniversary of the conclusion of World War II in Europe, and dozens of world leaders are expected to visit Moscow for the festivities; they include U.S. President George W. Bush, French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder. For several evenings this week, the center of Moscow was closed off to traffic as the military held rehearsals for the big parade. Photograph by Vladimir Filonov.
