The Oktyabr movie theater on Novy Arbat is set to reopen Monday after eight years of reconstruction. Formerly a classic Soviet-style cinema with one cavernous auditorium, the theater has been transformed into a modern nine-screen multiplex complete with bars and restaurants. With another major movie theater -- the Pushkinsky -- expected to close for reconstruction in December, the Oktyabr could regain its old status as one of the dominant movie theaters in central Moscow. The Oktyabr is located at 24 Novy Arbat. Photograph by Vladimir Filonov.
