Five Russian men and a Russian prostitute who worked at the brothel were arrested Thursday, said the Frankfurt police chief Karlheinz Gemmer. One man and the woman were expected to be remanded in investigative custody.
The Hungarian owners of the brothel, Gabor Bartos, 55, and his wife Ingrid, 48, as well as four prostitutes from the former Soviet Union were found dead in the sex club near Frankfurt's banking area Monday. The prostitutes, ages 18 to 28, were all from St. Petersburg.
The six suspects were found at a refugee shelter in Rettenbach, a Bavarian community about 300 kilometers from Frankfurt, Bavarian police said.
Bartos' watch and an electrical cord that is apparently the murder weapon were found during the arrests, Frankfurt police said. They said robbery may have been the murder motive since cash was missing from the Frankfurt brothel.
German media have speculated that the murders were committed by the Russian mafia because Bartos allegedly encroached on their business of trafficking in young women from East Europe.

A Message from The Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."
These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.
We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.
Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
