First Snow Falls on Moscow

The first snow of the season fell on Moscow on Tuesday night, and more light snowfall was forecast for parts of the city Wednesday.

But the snow is not sticking — at least for now.

"Even though the temperature in the capital is 2-3 degrees below normal, the snow melted almost immediately when it came into contact with the asphalt because of the warm surface of the earth," said an official with the state weather bureau for Moscow and the Moscow region, Interfax reported.

Light snow was falling in northern Moscow on Wednesday morning.

The temperature was expected to hit a high of 4.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday but not fluctuate drastically over the next few days, with slight minuses during the night and slight pluses during the day.
