Russia’s Tatarstan Enforces Quarantine Through Texting

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian republic of Tatarstan has enacted a regionwide self-isolation order.

Residents must text their personal details, as well as select 1 of 9 permitted reasons to go out to a government number in order to receive a special SMS code that includes the amount of time they are allowed to be outside.

Tatarstan currently has 41 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
