Moscow Expects Sharp Temperature Drop Tuesday Evening

Moskva News Agency

Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry has warned of a major cold snap in Moscow on Tuesday evening.

"Due to the displacement of an active low pressure system, we expect a sharp drop in air temperature of 10 degrees Celsius or more in Moscow – including the Novomoskovsky District – on Dec. 6, " the ministry's press service said

The drop in temperature will likely bring sleet, the ministry said, which can form black ice and cause injuries, traffic congestion, and an increase in automotive accidents. The statement calls on drivers to take extra caution while on the road.

As of 12:00 a.m. Moscow time on Dec. 6, the temperature stood at -10 C. In the past week, the capital has received significant snowfall, causing numerous flight delays and cancellations at Moscow's airports.
