A German cyclist travelling from Berlin to Shanghai has been attacked in the Kurgan region of Russia's Ural Mountains, the local branch of the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.
The 31-year old man had decided to spend the night in a tent after his bike broke on Tuesday night. A group of unknown men later attacked him, taking his personal belongings before escaping, the statement said.
The tourist was able to make his way to the nearest road, where he flagged down a passing car to call the police.
Four local residents have been arrested in connection with the incident, including three minors from nearby children's homes.
All of the stolen property was returned to the owner.
