The Festival of Lights will take place on October 28, 2016, in St. Petersburg. For several days, various city sites — St.Isaac's Cathedral, the Academy of Fine Arts, Alexandrinsky Theater – will become venues where citizens and guests of the Northern Capital of Russia will have the opportunity to see the best achievements of audio-visual art, performance, interactive installations, public art and tech theater.
The grand premiere show of the Festival of Lights was held in St. Petersburg. The Catherine the Great monument and facade of the Alexandrinsky Theater were brought to life by 3D-mapping and audio-visual technology. For the first time in Russian history, mapping was created not only on the flat surface of a building but on a three-dimensional monument.
Recognizable voices of actors from the Russian Academic Theater presented several scenes from Gogol's "The Government Inspector," Lermontov's "Masquerade," Chekhov's "The Seagull" and other productions. The show culminated with the awakened Catherine II saying, "Let there be light!"

A Message from The Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."
These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.
We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.
Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
Remind me later.
