Russian Professor in Jail for Treason Dies

A 62-year-old Russian who was serving more than a decade in prison for selling a Chinese spy confidential information about the Bulava rocket system has died of natural causes, the Interfax news agency reported Tuesday.

Yevgeny Afanasyev, a former professor at the Voyenmekh military university in St. Petersburg who was sentenced in 2012 to 12 1/2 years for treason, died in a penal colony in the Ulyanovsk region, the report said, citing the Federal Prison Service.
