South Ossetia Holds Parliamentary Elections

The Georgian breakaway republic of South Ossetia conducted parliamentary elections on Sunday.

The republic's government was dissolved in January amid its stagnating recovery from the 2008 war between Russia and Georgia over control of the republic.

In the aftermath of the Russia-Georgia war, South Ossetia declared its independence. Russia, Venezuela and Nicaragua are among the small handful of countries that have recognized its independence.
