Some 90,000 people were deported from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania under "Operation Priboi."
65 years ago today, on March 25, 1949, "Operation Priboi" began. Deporting some 90,000 Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians to Siberia is considered by historians to be one of the most vicious operations conducted in the Soviet Union. Seventy-two percent of those deported were women or children.
