Seventy-one years ago today, on Nov. 25, 1942, the Soviet Union and France signed an agreement that led to the creation of the Normandie-Niemen fighter squadron of the French Air Force. It fought on behalf of the Soviet Union in three campaigns during World War II, becoming one of only two Western air combat units to fight of the Eastern Front.
